Obedience training at CDODC is fun!

Let me repeat that for you so it has the full impact:  Obedience training at CDODC is FUN!!!

At Croydon, not only do we aim to get our teams working to the highest possible standard - we also like to make sure that you have FUN while you're doing it!

Obedience classes start by teaching you the basics, including how to:

  • establish a great bond with your dog;
  • be a good leader;
  • speak 'dog' effectively;
  • teach your dog new skills quickly and easily, and most importantly;
  • work with your own dog's unique capabilities to realise your goals.

As you move through Basic to Advanced Obedience you will learn how to teach your dog skills such as:

  • pay attention to you;
  • walk without pulling;
  • sit, drop and stand until released (stay in position);
  • come to you quickly;
  • perform 'tricks', including roll over, crawl, spin and walk backwards;
  • touch an object with nose or paw;
  • heel (walk close to your left leg and watch you);
  • work off-lead;
  • retrieve objects;
  • move away from you as directed;
  • discriminate scents.

While some exercises may seem a tad frivolous, such as some of the tricks, it is these challenging skills that help to teach your dog how to learn, while simultaneously perfecting your timing and your communication skills.  Not to mention - they're fun!

Toys and playtime are key components of our classes at all levels, which help to keep training entertaining for both you and your dog, as well as strengthening your bond and leadership skills.  (Who knew a little bit of playtime could achieve so much?!)

So come along and join in an obedience class... you may just be suprised by what you find yourself learning!
