Puppy Pre-School

CDODC avdocates that the benefits of training and socialisation in puppies as young as 6 weeks old far outway the remote possibility of your puppy becoming ill from attending Puppy Preschool. The period between 3 and 12 weeks of age are a crucial stage of a pup’s early development. A lack of socialisation during this critical period may have life-long repercussions. The critical period for socialisation begins to decline at about 14-16 weeks, after which the pup will never be so receptive to new stimuli again.

Classes are held in the hall on a Wednesday evening. We take every precaution to ensure a disease-free environment for puppies attending our Puppy Preschool. Our hall floors are vinyl and are thoroughly disinfected each week before Puppy Preschool classes. To further reduce the risk of harbouring disease, we ask that shoes be removed before entering the main hall area. Instructors hands are also disinfected before and after each class.

Puppy Pre-School aims to:

  • Socialise the pup and make it a well mannered and enjoyable pet to own. The pup learns to play as well as cope with lots of different people, loud noises, older dogs, children and novel stimuli early in life.
  • Teach owners about the normal behaviour of dogs, how to recognize early behavioural problems and how to prevent them, as well as covering aspects such as how to house train, how to stop biting and barking, good games to play etc.
  • Educate owners on other aspects of pet care.
    Duration: 4 weeks

These books are essential reading for all owners of dogs under 12 months of age and will show you how to prevent problems like house-soiling and destructive chewing, and how to raise a dog that is quiet, calm and well-mannered as well as obedient and confident around people.
